The pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool NHSfT and South Tees Hospitals NHSfT are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on all Trust sites.  As a result, this will require cross site working, with the potential to work at any site as needed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 professional, motivated and innovative Healthcare Science Support Workers to join the Cellular Pathology laboratory for 37.5 hours per week 

Healthcare Science support workers perform routine tasks in the laboratory supporting the work of the Biomedical Scientists contributing to the efficient and effective running of the department. The post holders will be involved in data input and specimen preparation e.g., checking patient and sample details and performing manual tasks, “house-keeping” duties, stock control and record keeping.

 

The department operates 07.00 - 18.00, Monday to Friday and 8am – 4pm Saturday, worked on a rotational basis and the post holder is expected to work flexibly within these times.   Full training in all aspects of the job will be provided in house in accordance with the department training policy and on successful completion of training the post holder will be given the opportunity to complete the IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part. The department has full UKAS accreditation and IBMS training approval. CPD is actively encouraged. 

The Pathology specimen reception Healthcare Science Support Worker role forms part of the Pathology reception team focussing on the area of  pre-analytical preparation of patient specimens across all sites.  They will also work in close co-operation with other pathology departments according to set protocols.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills, teamwork and an aptitude for problem solving are essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.
