Summary

SEMH Teaching Assistant – Flexible short-term and long-term opportunities available immediately

These flexible opportunities are ideal for support staff who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different school settings. You will be supporting pupils across a range of classes, helping them build emotional resilience and develop positive learning behaviours.

Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering adapted learning activities that support engagement
  • Help implement individual behaviour plans and emotional regulation strategies
  • Promote positive communication, confidence, and constructive relationships
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour in line with school policies
  • Encourage participation, independence, and self-esteem
  • Monitor pupil progress and share information with staff
  • Contribute to wider school life during longer-term placements

Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed approaches and de-escalation strategies
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic manner
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Adaptable across different classrooms and key stages
  • Professional, reliable, and proactive
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
