Experience supporting patients with communication and swallowing difficulties across acute and specialist pathways. The opportunity to work closely with experienced Speech and Language Therapists in a supportive and forward-thinking service. Development of clinical, administrative, organisational and therapy support skills. Involvement in preparing therapy resources, supporting therapy programmes, maintaining records and contributing to audit or service improvement activity. Exposure to specialist adult services, including acute inpatient care and Head and Neck cancer pathways. Access to supervision, induction, mandatory training, in-service learning and continuing professional development. An understanding of the role of Speech and Language Therapy, or a willingness to learn. Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office, email and administrative systems. Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work in a busy clinical environment. A compassionate, patient-centred approach. The ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from qualified clinicians. An awareness of confidentiality, health and safety, and professional boundaries. A willingness to undertake training and work towards agreed competencies. An interest in supporting people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. As the role develops, you will be supported to build the skills required for progression towards Band 4 Assistant Practitioner responsibilities. This may include developing greater confidence in delegated clinical work, contributing to training and education, supporting quality improvement activity, and working with increasing independence within agreed competencies.
