Summary

Applications are invited for the Fellowship post in Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based within the NCG-funded highly specialised adult Epidermolysis Bullosa Unit hosted at Solihull Hospital and will include a research element which will entail travel to the University of Birmingham where the research facility is located. Registration towards an MSc for the associated research is expected. The department of dermatology at Solihull, Good Hope and Heartlands Hospitals is the largest department of dermatology in the Midlands and one of the busiest specialist dermatology departments in the United Kingdom. We serve a local, regional, and supra-regional referral base commensurate with the broad range of subspecialty expertise and clinics offered. We host training posts for the West Midlands Dermatology Training scheme, NIHR Academic Clinical Fellows, a visiting fellow from New Zealand, as well as rotations for undergraduate medical trainees from the University of Birmingham. We are supported by an excellent team of administrative staff, a skin cancer nurse consultant and specialist nurses delivering phototherapy, systemic immunosuppression and isotretinoin clinics, photodynamic therapy, diphenylcyclopropenone, skin surgery, and specialist cancer nursing. A dedicated dermatology pharmacist has recently been appointed. The new department of dermatology at Solihull Hospital is a bespoke facility developed in 2015, representing an approximate 4 million capital investment and offering an excellent environment in which to deliver high quality clinical care. We work closely with our counterparts at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, particularly in the setting of advanced cutaneous malignancy, as well as in ensuring equity of access to dermatology care across our region. We are a friendly, dynamic, cohesive and forward-looking department seeking to further develop our reputation within the trust and our profile nationally and internationally. The Trust seeks to appoint a fellowship in Dermatology, with a special interest in Epidermolysis Bullosa, based in the Dermatology Department to support the directorate in delivering high standards of patient care. The post is designed as a post for research in Epidermolysis Bullosa. The post will consist of work within Dermatology and Epidermolysis Bullosa with research activity in Solihull and Birmingham.
