Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated doctor to join one of the UK's largest and busiest Gynaecological Oncology Centres as a Clinical Fellow in Gynaecological Oncology.

This fellowship is designed for doctors wishing to develop advanced surgical skills in gynaecological oncology and build a strong academic portfolio before entering subspecialty training or pursuing a consultant career. The post combines high-volume clinical exposure with dedicated research time and provides excellent opportunities for operative training, teaching, leadership and academic development.

Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team of five Consultant Gynaecological Oncologists, Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and allied healthcare professionals, the successful candidate will gain comprehensive experience in the management of ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulval and rare gynaecological cancers

A dedicated research session is incorporated into the timetable. Fellows are encouraged to participate in investigator-led and NIHR portfolio research, develop their own projects, present at national and international scientific meetings, and publish peer-reviewed papers. Previous fellows have developed an excellent publication record, with many achieving two or more peer-reviewed publications during their fellowship.

The Nottingham Gynaecological Cancer Centre provides a critical hub for the  delivery of gynaecological caner services to the Mid-Trent sector of the East  Midlands Cancer Network. Nottingham forms the Gynaecological Cancer Centre with King’s Mill Hospital and  the Lincolnshire units being associated units within the Mid-Trent Cancer sector.

The United Lincolnshire hospitals NHS Trust has been formed from Lincoln County  hospital, Grantham Hospital and Pilgrim Hospital. Lincoln and Grantham work as a  single unit for gynaecology. Lincoln has oncology unit providing radiotherapy and  chemotherapy for the Trust. Chemotherapy services are also available in Boston. King’s Mill Hospital has chemotherapy facilities, but radiotherapy is organised in  Nottingham at NCH.

The department has strong academic links with the University of Nottingham, including collaborations with NOVARC (Nottingham Ovarian Cancer Research Centre) and spectroscopy research groups, providing opportunities to develop grant applications and higher degree projects (MD/PhD) for interested candidates. The post does not offer a higher degree directly.

The post includes participation in the resident on-call rota (currently 1:9) together with a structured weekly timetable incorporating theatre, outpatient clinics, MDT participation, pre-operative assessment, ward care and dedicated research time.

We welcome applications from enthusiastic doctors committed to delivering high-quality patient care, advancing research and contributing to the future development of Gynaecological Oncology services.
