Summary
CLINICAL To work in the Interventional Room within the Radiology Department, supporting all members of the multi-disciplinary team To be responsible for the administration of intra-venous (IV) medication as prescribed having undertaken the necessary training and competencies to do so To ensure that the patient is monitored during their complex interventional examination To ensure that all of the patients needs are continually assessed and appropriate care is given and recorded in their Healthcare Record Following appropriate training you will be expected to scrub alongside the Consultant Radiologist for complex procedures, being able to interpret fluoroscopy images, anticipate the consultants needs and communicate any concerns or issues during often long and complex examinations To monitor patients in Ultrasound (U/S), MRI, Fluoroscopy or CT Department following biopsy or drainage as required To undertake all examinations and patient care to the highest standards of evidenced base care To cannulate patients for IV contrast and pain relief when required To catheterise adult patients for Micturating Cystograms To act as the Radiology Department Lead for Infection Prevention, ensuring that Trust Policies and Procedures for Infection Prevention are adhered to. To undertake the following audits, the results of which should be reported at Radiology Department Meeting and their findings disseminated to staff and any changes in practice be identified and implemented: Hand Hygiene Audit Cleaning Audit O2 and Suction Audit To comply with procedures, protocols and policies of the Trust and in the Radiology Department, reporting any variances and critical incidents. Participate in reviews of departmental documentation, policies and procedures To be responsible for clean, well equipped working environment at all times Participate in ensuring that the stock and resources are replenished as required. Identifying any resource deficits and assist in identifying actions to resolve the deficit and including ordering of stock items. To be responsible for reporting any faults or breakdowns to Section Lead Participate in any extended day / on call / out of hours programme that is in operation or implemented in the future To be responsible for monitoring and teaching clinical nursing skills to radiographers, assistant practitioners and radiographic aides. Provide CPD sessions and teaching to the department. Professional appearance at all times as per Trust Policy EDUCATION/ DEVELOPMENT/TRAINING To participate in all Trust Statutory and Mandatory Training, be pro-active with personal development including the maintenance of a professional portfolio To participate in undertaking staff appraisals To assist and supervise Student Nurses, Student Assistant Practitioners and Student Radiographers where required for patient care modules To be responsible for the clinical training of Radiographic Aides and Assistant Practitioners when required in clinical processes To accept responsibility for own professional registration and practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct Provide an environment conducive to learning COMMUNICATION Possess excellent communication skills and be aware of how both verbal and nonverbal communication can be interpreted by others Maintenance of all patient documentation as per departmental protocols and Radiology Information System. To be able to maintain good working relationships with radiologists, radiographers, departmental support and clerical staff, ward and out-patient staff To liaise with ward staff, patients and carers and have the ability to explain day to day procedures and respond to queries about the examinations at the appropriate level MANAGERIAL To manage own workload on a daily basis To assist in Ultrasound Department, MRI and / or CT Department when workload permits to aide smooth running of session CLINICAL GOVERNANCE (POLICIES, COMPLAINTS, HEALTH & SAFETY) To adhere to all safety regulations with regards Health and Safety, COSHH and Ionising Radiation Regulations To work within and adhere to Trust Standards and Operational Policies relating to the Radiology Department To participate in audit programmes as designated by Lead Radiographers The post-holder must at all times maintain the confidentiality of all patient data including electronic data in line with the Data Protection Act Ensure that all staff consciously review mistakes, complaints and incidents / near misses as well as successes to improve performance and the level of patient care ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The post-holder will be required to wear a lead apron for long periods of time during examinations Warwick Radiology Department will be the base initially but rotating through Stratford Radiology Department when new department is developed further as required
