Summary
PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL: The post holder will predominately work to provide support to the Consultants to sustain the provision of an efficient Trauma and Orthopaedic service to patients, including ensuring, in conjunction with colleagues, the highest quality of care is provided to each individual patient who attends the speciality and support the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department in meeting and delivering its local and national targets. Includes working within Theatres, Clinic environments, with your own stream of patients. The department is supported by the following Management Team: Mrs Zoe Turner Divisional Director of Operations Surgery/Womens & Childrens Mrs Michelle Treanor Directorate Manager General & Specialist Surgery & Trauma and Orthopaedics Mrs Janet Cordwell Head of Nursing Administrative Support is provided by a bank of Orthopaedic Secretaries. SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Demonstrate a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act / Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and apply the principles to everyday practice seeking advice / guidance from the Registered Healthcare Professional as required. Have a responsibility to ensure all information processed for patients and staff is kept confidential, accurate and in line with the data protection act 1998 and Caldecott principles. Be environmentally aware and prudent in use of resources and energy. Maintain responsibility for the identification of own continuing educational needs and development and take part in annual appraisal. Recognise and consistently work within boundaries of the role and acquire skills and knowledge to develop competencies in the service area as directed. Maintain competence in Statutory and Mandatory training. Attend appropriate training courses and keep up to date with developments within the service area. SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT The post holder will be involved in physically strenuous tasks such as pushing however manual handling equipment and training are provided. The post holder will be expected to write reports and clinical notes and may well be interrupted frequently. The post holder is likely to deal with distressing and traumatic situations. The post holder will be required to deal with bodily fluids and unavoidable hazardous substances.
