This is
not a general CNC machining role. We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in the
manufacture, maintenance, repair and improvement of plastic injection mould tools, who takes pride in working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
The Role
As an
Injection Mould Toolmaker / Tooling Engineer, you will be responsible for manufacturing, assembling, maintaining and repairing injection mould tools, helping to ensure production runs efficiently and tooling remains to the required standard.
You will work closely with the wider engineering and production teams, using
CNC machining, CAD/CAM, precision fitting and inspection techniques to manufacture and maintain high-quality tooling.
Key Responsibilities
• Manufacture, assemble and maintain
plastic injection mould tools.
• Carry out tooling repairs, servicing and modifications.
• Diagnose tooling issues and identify practical solutions.
• Set and operate
CNC milling machines.
• Programme CNC machinery and generate machining strategies where required.
• Produce CNC programmes using
CAD/CAM software.
• Work accurately from engineering drawings and
3D CAD models.
• Manufacture precision mould components to tight tolerances.
• Carry out precision fitting, bench work and tool assembly.
• Use hand tools and precision measuring equipment to verify components.
• Carry out inspections using equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges, with
CMM inspection where required.
• Select appropriate tooling, machining strategies, feeds and speeds.
• Support tooling improvements and modifications to improve production performance.
• Maintain accurate and high-quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
• Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe toolroom environment.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
•
3–5+ years' post-apprenticeship experience within a toolroom or precision engineering environment.
• Proven experience manufacturing, maintaining or repairing
plastic injection mould tools.
• Strong CNC machining experience, particularly
CNC milling.
• Experience setting and operating CNC milling machinery.
• CNC programming experience using
Fanuc, Hurco or similar controls.
• Experience with
CAD/CAM software, such as Fusion 360, OpenMind Hypermill or similar.
• Ability to generate CNC toolpaths from
STEP and IGES models.
• Experience working from detailed engineering drawings and 3D CAD data.
• Strong precision fitting, bench work and tool assembly skills.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment.
• Knowledge of
EDM, including spark erosion and/or wire erosion, would be highly advantageous.
• Experience with
3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar, would be beneficial.
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
• A practical and proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team.
