Summary

This is primarily a clinical role with a degree of first line management to address service needs.

To act as part of a team responsible for providing the efficient daily delivery of the breast imaging service, ensuring that a high standard of patient care is delivered whist maintaining a quality service to agreed standards.

**For those who are newly qualified radiographers or have less the 2 years post qualification experience this post will be a Band 5 Training post with progression to Band 6 on completion.**

• To provide a high-quality mammographic service, including the screening,symptomatic breast clinics and surveillance and family history programme to the women of Leicestershire and Rutland

• Adhere to the NHSBSP guidelines including monitoring of the equipment and quality standards

• To prepare all mammographic equipment prior to using to ensure that equipment is working correctly and safely following agreed protocols

• Ensure that women attending for Breast Imaging are interviewed in the appropriate manner displaying an encouraging attitude to breast imaging and that women are supported and guided through the mammographic process.

• Manage the mammographic workflow

• Assist in the department of systems of work including operational policies and procedures

• To initiate and make recommendations towards changes in clinical practice for new ways of working

• To adhere to the NHSBSP Quality Assurance Guidelines for Radiographersand maintain high standards of clinical expertise in all aspects of Breast Imaging.

• To keep abreast of modern imaging techniques by further appropriate training and to be responsible for their Continuous Professional Development

· To maintain a high level of clinical expertise

· To encourage and practice “right first time” radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the service

· To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Breast Care Centre respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.

· Perform technical administrative tasks, including accurate patient information, examination details and post processing requirements on Radiology Information and PACS systems including the NHS BSP system.

· To undertake Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography and intravenous injection contrast media in compliance with protocol, following training and if required by the role – if required

· To ensure that all clinical and non-clinical information records are fully and accurately completed and maintained.

· To ensure all data input onto the Radiology computer system and National Breast Screening Programme by all staff is accurate and updated as necessary

· To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves, other staff, patients and visitors, with reference to the Health and Safety at work Act 1974.

· Adhere to encourage staff to acknowledge all Local Rules, Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 and Health & Safety procedures, including prompt reporting of accidents, equipment faults and untoward incidents and new policies and procedures.

· To ensure the highest standards of radiation protection for staff, patients and visitors and to ensure a safe working environment in respect of other health and safety issues.
