Responsibilities
* Supervise the day-to-day operations of the convenience store and ensure smooth and efficient trading.
* Lead, support and supervise shop staff during shifts, allocating duties and monitoring performance.
* Ensure high standards of customer service are maintained and deal professionally with customer queries and complaints.
* Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering, receiving, checking and replenishment of merchandise.
* Carry out regular stock checks and help minimise stock losses, wastage and discrepancies.
* Ensure products are correctly priced, labelled, rotated and displayed in accordance with store procedures.
* Monitor sales performance and support management in achieving store sales and operational targets.
* Oversee till operations, cash handling, cash reconciliation and end-of-day procedures.
* Assist with preparing staff rotas and ensuring adequate staffing levels during busy trading periods.
* Train and support new and existing employees in store procedures, customer service and operational standards.
* Ensure compliance with age-restricted sales procedures and other relevant retail requirements.
* Maintain high standards of store cleanliness, presentation, merchandising and overall customer experience.
* Ensure health and safety, food hygiene and workplace procedures are followed by all team members.
* Assist with opening and closing procedures and take responsibility for the store when senior management is unavailable.
* Report operational issues, stock concerns, maintenance requirements and staff matters to management.

* Basic computer and EPOS/till-system skills.
* Ability to motivate staff and maintain high standards of performance.
* Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions when required.
Experience
* Previous experience working in a retail, convenience store, supermarket or similar customer-facing environment is required.
* Previous supervisory, team leader or senior retail experience is preferred.
* Experience supervising staff and allocating daily duties.
* Experience with cash handling, till operations and end-of-day reconciliation.
* Experience with stock ordering, receiving deliveries, stock rotation and inventory control.
* Experience dealing with customers and resolving complaints professionally.
* Experience maintaining store standards and supporting achievement of sales targets.
* Experience training or supporting junior members of staff would be advantageous.
Qualifications
* A good standard of general education, including English and Mathematics, or equivalent qualifications.
* A qualification in Retail Management, Business Management, Customer Service or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
* Relevant retail supervisory or management training would be beneficial.
* Food hygiene, health and safety, or age-restricted sales training would be advantageous.
* Equivalent practical retail experience will also be considered.
