Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (ASD Support)

Location: Treorchy, Rhondda Cynon Taf

Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term

Working Hours: Monday – Friday

Salary: £14.25 per hour

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within a primary school in Treorchy. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering consistency and the chance to make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational and emotional development.

The successful candidate will work closely alongside the class teacher to create and maintain a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment tailored to the pupil’s individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
  • Support the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement with learning
  • Implement strategies to manage behaviour linked to trauma and additional needs
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school staff
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and predictable environment
  • Monitor and report on the pupil’s progress and wellbeing
  • Essential Requirements:

    • Experience working with children with ASD
    • Proven experience supporting children affected by trauma
    • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or prior experience working with children with ALN
    • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
    • Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
    • Calm, patient, and resilient approach
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Desirable:

      • Experience in a primary school setting
      • Training in trauma-informed practice or de-escalation techniques
