About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within a primary school in Treorchy. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering consistency and the chance to make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational and emotional development.
The successful candidate will work closely alongside the class teacher to create and maintain a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment tailored to the pupil’s individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
- Support the pupil’s emotional regulation and engagement with learning
- Implement strategies to manage behaviour linked to trauma and additional needs
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school staff
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and predictable environment
- Monitor and report on the pupil’s progress and wellbeing
- Experience working with children with ASD
- Proven experience supporting children affected by trauma
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or prior experience working with children with ALN
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies
- Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience in a primary school setting
- Training in trauma-informed practice or de-escalation techniques
