Summary

The Mechanical Supervisor is a key member of the Estates and Facilities team, responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant operation of mechanical engineering services across the Trust. The post holder provides technical leadership for maintenance activities, supervises engineering staff and contractors, and supports the delivery of high-quality healthcare services through the reliability of critical building and engineering systems. Key Responsibilities Supervise the maintenance, repair, testing, and inspection of mechanical building services and engineering plant to ensure operational reliability and compliance with statutory requirements. Lead fault-finding activities, diagnose complex engineering problems, and coordinate effective repairs to minimise disruption to clinical and operational services. Plan, prioritise, and coordinate planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, statutory inspections, and emergency repair works. Monitor and control Building Management Systems (BMS) and other engineering monitoring systems to optimise plant performance, energy efficiency, and service continuity. Provide day-to-day supervision, technical support, and guidance to Craftspersons, Maintenance Assistants, Building Services Assistants, Apprentices, and contractors. Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, Trust policies, safe systems of work, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures. Coordinate maintenance and fault investigation activities on a broad range of engineering systems, including HVAC, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, medical gases, water services, steam systems, pressure systems, and specialist healthcare equipment. Support the delivery of capital projects, infrastructure upgrades, backlog maintenance programmes, and minor works by providing technical expertise and contractor oversight. Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance records to support maintenance planning and service improvements. Maintain accurate records within CAFM systems and ensure asset information, maintenance documentation, and compliance records remain up to date. Participate in commissioning activities, performance testing, and validation of engineering systems and equipment. Liaise with manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate specialist repairs, maintenance services, and technical support. Investigate service failures and contribute to root cause analysis exercises to identify corrective and preventative actions. Promote and maintain safe working practices, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, industry standards, and Healthcare Technical Memoranda (HTM). Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, maintenance strategies, and service improvement initiatives. Support emergency response arrangements, major incident procedures, and business continuity plans, including participation in out-of-hours working when required. Contribute to the training, mentoring, and development of engineering staff and apprentices, promoting continuous professional development and knowledge sharing. Ensure engineering services support the Trust's objectives for patient safety, service quality, operational resilience, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. The post holder is expected to work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams to maintain a safe, efficient, and patient-focused healthcare environment while demonstrating the Trust's values of Excellence, Kindness, Responsibility, and Respect.
