Summary

The Band 6 Arrhythmia Specialist Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based specialist nursing care to patients with cardiac rhythm disorders mainly across outpatient settings. Working as part of the multidisciplinary Electrophysiology (EP) and Cardiology team, the post holder will assess, investigate, manage and support patients throughout their arrhythmia care pathway while promoting patient-centred care and service excellence. Main Responsibilities Undertake comprehensive clinical assessment of patients presenting with cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and other common arrhythmias or inherited cardiac conditions. Manage an allocated caseload of patients under the supervision of Consultant Electrophysiologists, providing ongoing assessment, follow-up and coordination of care. Deliver nurse-led arrhythmia clinics in accordance with local and national guidelines. Triage and prioritise referrals to the Arrhythmia Service, ensuring timely assessment and appropriate management. Coordinate and undertake pre-assessment, procedural support and follow-up for elective direct current cardioversion (DCCV). Provide specialist counselling and education to patients undergoing catheter ablation, including pre-procedure preparation and post-procedure follow-up. Participate in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) services and assist with specialist investigations, including Ajmaline provocation testing. Interpret ECGs, ambulatory monitoring and other cardiac investigations, escalating abnormal findings appropriately. Monitor patients receiving antiarrhythmic medications and anticoagulation therapy, identifying potential adverse effects and escalating concerns in accordance with agreed protocols.
