About the Role

Hays Education is currently working with a school in Middlesbrough to appoint an experienced Interim School Business Manager to start as soon as possible.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance and operations professional to step into a busy school environment and hit the ground running.Initially offered as an 8-week assignment, there is strong potential for this role to extend until Christmas or develop into a permanent position for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the school, including budgeting, forecasting and reporting.

Managing school finances in line with statutory requirements and best practice.

Supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team with strategic financial planning.

Overseeing HR, premises, health & safety, and administrative functions.

Ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures and regulations.

Line managing support staff and contributing to the smooth running of the school.

Essential Requirements

Proven experience in a finance or business management role.

Strong knowledge of financial systems and budget management.

Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.

Ability to start immediately and commit to the assignment.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Highly Desirable

Previous experience working within a school or education setting.

Familiarity with school finance systems (e.g. SIMS, FMS, PS Financials, IRIS Financials, Access Education Finance or similar).

Knowledge of academy or maintained school financial frameworks.
