South Staffordshire Water operates across two regions as Cambridge Water and South Staffs Water, and is a privately-owned

regulated water only company.

South Staffs Water supplies a population of nearly 1.3 million. The area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the

North, to Halesowen in the South, and from Burton-on-Trent in the East, to Kinver in the West.

The Role: 

We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Security and Resilience Specialist to support the delivery of our security,

emergency planning, and business resilience programmes across the organisation.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with operational teams, regulatory bodies, emergency planning

partners, contractors, and technology specialists to ensure the business remains resilient, secure, and prepared to respond

effectively to incidents and emergencies.

You will play a key role in maintaining compliance with DEFRA and Water UK security requirements, supporting business continuity

planning, and providing technical advice to colleagues across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Emergency Planning & Business Resilience

* Support the development, maintenance, and testing of emergency response and business continuity plans.

* Assist with the implementation of SEMD and Civil Contingencies Act requirements.

* Coordinate emergency planning resources, training, exercises, and lessons learned activities.

* Provide support during emergency incidents to help maintain operational services and customer supply.

 

Security Management

* Conduct Security Risk Assessments and maintain Operational Requirements documents across company sites, including Critical

National Infrastructure locations.

* Support compliance with DEFRA security standards and implement recommendations from audits and security reviews.

* Manage site access controls, security clearances, and authorised access processes in line with company policy.

* Liaise with security contractors and suppliers to ensure security systems are maintained and operational.

Technical Advice & Stakeholder Engagement

* Provide specialist advice on security, emergency planning, and business continuity matters across the organisation.

* Maintain emergency planning documentation, procedures, records, and audit requirements.

* Support the development and improvement of emergency planning and security systems.

* Build effective relationships with key stakeholders, including Local Resilience Forums, regulators, contractors, and internal

teams.

 

What You’ll Need:

 

Essential

* Diploma in Emergency Planning and Management, Security Management, or a related discipline, or significant experience within an

emergency planning, resilience, or security-focused role.

* Broad understanding of operational business processes and challenges.

* Good knowledge of the Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD) and Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

* Experience developing plans and strategies to manage incidents and emergency situations.

* Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.

* Confident IT user with the ability to work across multiple systems and platforms.

* Full, valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across company sites.

 

Desirable

* Project management experience.

* Experience working within a regulated utility, infrastructure, emergency services, or critical national infrastructure

environment.
