Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

The appointee will undertake 4 days of Simulation & Clinical Skills and 1 day of clinical work per week, Monday to Friday.

Applicants must hold MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification, and possess a minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience, including Foundation Programme (or equivalent experience).

Applicants must also hold Full Registration and License to Practice with the GMC at time of application.

Applicants must also have excellent skills in written and spoken English to enable highly effective communication with undergraduate and postgraduate learners, patients and colleagues. They must also have a sound knowledge and skills of general medicine and surgery; sufficient to teach undergraduate medical students and foundation doctors. Good working knowledge of UK healthcare in the NHS is essential.

The post holder will work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary Clinical Skills Team and Manager to ensure that all teaching is carried out to a high standard. The appointee will be expected to cover for absence from duty of other members of the Clinical Skills Team on the basis of mutually agreed arrangements with the Trust.

Teaching

Undergraduate: Delivery of simulation and clinical skills teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate learners at Queen’s Hospital, Burton; including medical students undertaking their clinical placements at QHB and Foundation Programme trainees.

Support the ongoing development of undergraduate teaching for medical students in accordance with their curriculum. These duties may include audit, report writing, service evaluation and service improvement projects.

Postgraduate: Deliver postgraduate teaching for Foundation Programme trainees based at Queen’s Hospital. You will be expected to plan, support and contribute to the agreed programmes in conjunction with the Foundation Programme Directors and the Simulation & Clinical Skills Tutors.

You will be expected to be flexible and to work collaboratively with the Simulation & Clinical Skills Team. This may, on occasion, require work outside of normal hours when this is necessary for particular courses or teaching sessions. Where this is necessary and occurs outside of contracted hours, you will receive an equivalent duty period off.

Clinical

You will be expected to undertake clinical duties, one day a week, at Queens Hospital, Burton. This will enable you to maintain and develop your clinical skills. Where possible, these duties will be undertaken in a department or departments relevant to the career aspirations of the post holder. These duties will be limited to a maximum of 1 day (2 sessions) per week.

The post holder will support simulation and clinical skills teaching, primarily for the Leicester undergraduate medical students, on clinical placement at Queen’s Hospital, Burton and Foundation Programme trainees based at Queen’s Hospital. The post holder will also support other simulation and clinical skills activity as deemed appropriate by the Simulation & Clinical Skills Tutor or Resuscitation & Clinical Skills Manager.
