Summary
• Provide a high quality, efficient portering service as a member of a dedicated team to support services within the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust at the Arrowe Park or Clatterbridge sites.
• Work in a manner that demonstrates the Trusts core values and behaviours to support a positive patient experience
• Understanding of how the role contributes to infection prevention and control within the healthcare environment
• Communicate with patients, staff and colleagues in a professional and polite manner.
• Perform portering duties in allocated areas of the hospital site, including Pharmacy, Pathology, Endoscopy, Radiology, Post Room, Waste Team, Goods Distribution Centre, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre
• Transport patients within the allocated hospital site in line with Trust policies and departmental procedures
• Adopt a caring, polite and professional manner when transporting patients
• Use of radios for communication with other members of the Portering team
• Use of telephones and radios for allocation of daily duties
• Safe collection and delivery of gas cylinders, beds, blood products, specimens, pharmacy products, medical equipment, furniture and other equipment around the allocated hospital site(s)
• Ensure wheelchairs are cleaned after patient use
• Use of departmental portering computer system
• Change and replenish medical gas cylinders
• Return empty gas cylinders to designated storage area for stock replacement
• Transfer of deceased patients from wards and departments to the mortuary in a respectful manner
• Assist outside agencies with the transfer of deceased patients
• Use of autoclaving machine to sterilise used specimen receptacles within Pathology Department and removal of waste products to correct waste disposal stream.
