Summary

Job Title: Disabled Facilities Grant Officer (2 posts)

Salary: £39,027 - £44,463 per annum

Grade: E

Contract: Fixed Term Contract - 24 months

Hours: 37 Hours per Week

The Disabled Facilities Grant Service is integrated with the Occupational Therapy Service for Adults and Children's Social Care. The service has adopted an integrated service approach that enables speed of access to the DFG for Thurrock Residents. In addition to providing a timelier assessment and support compared to that prior to the review, the DFG service has also adopted a self-service approach for DFG applicants that enable greater choice and control in arranging home adaptations, such as determining the contractor or builder they would like to undertake the works, and when they are progressed.

An accessible and well-adapted home can enable an adult or child with a disability to remain in their home for longer, with dignity and with pride, and the earlier this is achieved, the sooner the benefits can be realised.

Home adaptations can provide many benefits for residents, with the smallest change to an individual's home bringing about significant enhancements to an individual's independence, and overall health and wellbeing. Home adaptations can also reduce the risks associated with a poorly accessible home, such as reduce the risk of falls, hospital admissions, and reduce the need for the reliance on carers, or other informal and formal support.

The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) provides financial assistance that is essential for provision of home adaptations to give disabled people better freedom of movement in and around their homes, and to give access to essential facilities within the home and access to their community. We are seeking two exceptional, engaging and committed individuals to join us as Disabled Facilities Grant Officers. This role is a unique and interesting, providing an exciting opportunity to work alongside colleagues in supporting our residents to achieve their aspirations within their home and their community. As a Disabled Facilities Grant Officer you will:

- Enable disabled or vulnerable people to live safely, independently, and comfortably in their own homes through the effective and efficient administration of the Disabled Facilities Grant.

- Provide advice and guidance to residents about available grants, adaptation options, and the application process.

- Assess grant applications to determine eligibility for the Grant.

- Support grant applicants to arrange home adaptations; liaising with contractors, surveyors, and homeowners to ensure works are progressed and completed in line with the grant conditions.

- Support the management of grant applications and grant awards ensuring compliance with legislation and local authority policies.

- Monitor progress of the grant application from initial assessment through to completion and final inspection.
