We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in General Surgery to join our thriving surgical department at Basildon Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team committed to delivering outstanding elective and emergency surgical care while driving innovation, education and service improvement.

Working alongside experienced Consultants, Surgical Care Practitioners and trainee doctors, you will play a key role in providing high-quality care across a range of surgical specialties. Your responsibilities will include inpatient and day-case operating, outpatient clinics, emergency surgical care and participation in the on-call rota.

We are looking for a motivated clinician who is passionate about patient care, values teamwork and is keen to develop professionally. Alongside your clinical duties, you will have opportunities to contribute to teaching, clinical governance, quality improvement and service development projects, helping to shape the future of surgical services.

This role offers a supportive environment, excellent multidisciplinary collaboration and the chance to make a real difference to patients' lives. If you are ambitious, compassionate and eager to further your surgical career within a progressive and welcoming team, we would love to hear from you.

Deliver comprehensive care for elective and emergency general surgical patients, ensuring high standards of safe, effective and patient-centred care.

Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute surgical conditions, including participation in emergency admissions, trauma management and on-call services.

Participate in consultant-led ward rounds, providing ongoing clinical management and coordinating patient care throughout the surgical pathway.

Undertake outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and endoscopy lists, contributing to the timely assessment and treatment of patients.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication, continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

Participate in the full-shift on-call rota, supporting the provision of 24-hour emergency surgical services.

Supervise, teach and support junior doctors, medical students and allied health professionals, contributing to education and workforce development.

Engage actively in clinical audit, governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives, promoting continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of clinical practice.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
