Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Children's Nurse with a commitment to family-centred care, to join our team on the Children’s Burns Ward as a band 5 Nurse. We have a part time vacancy available, 22 hours per week.

The Children’s Burns ward is a small, friendly unit consisting of eight beds in total. We provide a high standard of specialised care for children, young people and their families who have sustained burn injuries or experienced significant medical skin loss. We also care for children requiring outpatient burns care in our burns dressings clinics held daily on the ward.

The ward forms part of the St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, a world renowned service, promoting an excellent standard of care and professionalism within this specialty.

The successful applicant must have experience with looking after sick children, and a knowledge of burn care would also be preferable but is not essential.

The role will involve caring for inpatient children with burns injuries, and also  children requiring outpatient care in our dressings clinics held daily on the ward. The burns unit also has a new outreach service known as "The Burns Bus" which travels to various parts of the London and South East Burns Network to provide burns care close to patients homes.

There will also be the opportunity to work alongside the intensive care team caring for children with life threatening burn injuries in the ITU setting.

The successful applicant will be fully supported, with in house specialist training, mentoring and preceptorship.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.

This post gives the applicant a unique opportunity to experience caring for children and their families in acute, intensive and high dependency settings.

The role of a band 5 nurse is: To provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times their privacy and dignity. To assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care. To  contribute to supporting the Junior/Senior sister. To support the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness in their own clinical area.

If you would like to work in a friendly environment, and are motivated and enthusiastic about making a difference in children with burn injuries, we would like to hear from you.
