Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Cardiology and particularly, in Paediatric and Adult Congenital Catheter interventions. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. Why you should join our Team The department serves a population of approximately 5.5 million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Trent. Services include all aspects of specialist tertiary care of cardiac patients with the exception of transplantation. The annual workload of the department includes over 10,000 outpatient consultations and approximately 400 congenital cardiac operations. The congenital cardiac catheter programme performs around 650 procedures per annum (approximately 350 paediatric and 300 adult, around 70% intervention and 30% diagnostic). Hybrid, EP and pacing work takes the invasive cardiology programme to around 750 procedures per annum. There are 5 dedicated invasive cardiology specialist nurses who play a key role in the day-to-day running of the service. The congenital cardiology department has office space and outpatient clinics situated in the Jubilee Building at the Leeds General Infirmary. The inpatient department within Leeds Children’s Hospital (based in the Clarendon wing) includes a dedicated 16 bed paediatric cardiac ward, (of which 6 beds are designated as high dependency) and a paediatric intensive care unit with 14 beds. There is a hybrid catheter lab specifically for the care of congenital cardiac patients. There are obstetric, neonatal and all sub-specialty paediatric services on site. The department currently comprises 14 consultant paediatric cardiologists and 5 consultant adult congenital cardiologists. There are 4 congenital cardiac surgeons who work closely with the cardiologists. What you will bring to the role Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Paediatric Cardiology with experience in congenital cardiac catheterisation and intervention. Higher specialty training in congenital cardiac catheterisation and intervention Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances. Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Cardiology. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Well organised and skilled in good time management. * Effective interpersonal skills. * Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team. Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.
