Summary

Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £13.95 - £14.83

This is a 39-week sessional post i.e. working hours will be during school term time plus in-service days.

Days and Hours of Work:

Monday - Friday, starting and finishing times are flexible within the school day.

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Business Support Assistant for the school office at Dunbar Grammar School which encompasses a wide variety of tasks and a high standard of customer service for all our school community and stakeholders.

The role requires good MS Office skills, particularly Excel and Word. The successful applicant will also work with SEEMIS (Management Information System).

School experience would be welcomed, but is not essential.

If you are well organised and can multi-task, feel you are capable of using your initiative under pressure to meet deadlines and can deal with people on all levels this varied role offers a rewarding opportunity.

The post is permanent and full-time and the start date would be in August/September.

You will require an ability to work successfully with others in a wide range of school matters.

You will also require an ability to maintain a sense of humour and a sense of perspective.

Dunbar Grammar is a six-year, fully inclusive, comprehensive, non-denominational and co-educational school. It serves the town of Dunbar and the surrounding area. It is one of seven secondary schools in East Lothian.

The present building was opened in 1961 and is situated in an attractive site in the centre of Dunbar. It has spacious playground areas and a games field within the school grounds.

The school is fully equipped for disabled access.

The school has been completely redeveloped as part of East Lothian Council's Private and Public Partnership scheme and as a result boasts excellent facilities, including a Games Hall, Fitness Room, Drama Studio and Recording Studio.

The associated primary schools are Dunbar PS, West Barns PS, Stenton PS, Innerwick PS and East Linton PS.

The school roll in September 2025 was 1,100 and the present teaching complement is around 90.

To provide administrative, clerical, reception and information support to the school through a range of tasks carried out within well-defined regulations.

Relevant Qualifications

Educated to ‘Higher’ level, NC or SVQ level 2 in English and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
