Summary

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Science Assistants to join our busy Cardiac Investigations Unit at Southmead Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality diagnostic cardiology services for both inpatients and outpatients. Working alongside a team of experienced Cardiac Physiologists and Senior Healthcare Science Assistants, you will play a key role in providing electrocardiographic investigations, including resting ECGs and ambulatory cardiac and blood pressure monitoring.

The role involves direct patient contact and offers the opportunity to develop specialist skills within a supportive and fast-paced cardiac diagnostics environment. You will contribute to ensuring patients receive an efficient, professional and compassionate service while supporting the wider cardiology team in delivering excellent patient care.

As a Healthcare Science Assistant within the Cardiac Investigations Unit, you will support the day-to-day operation of a busy diagnostic service, ensuring patients receive timely and high-quality cardiac investigations.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Performing accurate and high-quality resting 12-lead ECGs for both inpatients and outpatients.

• Fitting, downloading, cleaning and maintaining ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitors.

• Supporting the effective running of outpatient clinics and inpatient diagnostic services.

• Assisting Cardiac Physiologists during exercise tolerance tests and other specialist cardiac investigations where required.

• Preparing clinical areas and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient service.

• Communicating professionally and compassionately with patients, relatives and colleagues.

• Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring all associated administrative tasks are completed to a high standard.

• Adhering to Trust policies, infection prevention standards and clinical governance requirements.

• Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary cardiac diagnostics team to deliver high standards of patient care.
