Summary
The Opportunity
There are approximately 1,500 qualified asbestos surveyors in the UK, a small specialist profession most people simply do not know exists. ACS are offering two trainee positions on a structured three-year development programme, one in Glasgow and one in Port Talbot. This is not an internship. We are looking for people we can invest in, and we expect genuine commitment in return.
Why This Work Matters
Asbestos was used extensively across construction and industry until its toxic nature became fully understood and its use was banned in the UK in 1999. Around 5,000 people still die every year from asbestos-related diseases. Our founder, Professor Roger Willey, is the architect of research estimated to save between 150 and 200 lives per year. Qualified surveyors are one of the principal defences against this continuing toll. When you join ACS, you join an organisation with that history behind it.
The Role
Working alongside experienced colleagues on real sites from day one, you will conduct building surveys and bulk sampling, perform air monitoring and four-stage clearances, produce written reports, and maintain client relationships. The work is hands-on and varied, based primarily across South and West Wales from our office on the Tata Steel works. It takes place in demanding environments including confined spaces, industrial settings, and older buildings. A full UK driving licence and reasonable physical fitness are essential.
