Summary

he Consultant Haematologist will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Surrey County Hospital. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. The role combines clinical leadership, direct patient care, teaching, research and service development, supporting a modern, integrated haematology service. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Provide expert clinical care across inpatient, outpatient and day unit settings, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients. Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and laboratory services. Deliver senior clinical decision-making, including triaging referrals, reviewing potential admissions and ensuring timely investigations and management plans. Provide specialist advice to colleagues across other specialties and contribute to shared patient care. Maintain continuity of care, including safe and effective patient handover. On-Call and Service Delivery Participate in the consultant on-call rota, providing senior cover and support for acute haematology services. Deliver comprehensive consultant-led care, ensuring safe, effective and responsive services. Support delivery of anticoagulation, transfusion and haematology day unit services. Leadership and Team Working Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing staff, allied health professionals and management teams to deliver a high-quality, well-led service. Provide clinical leadership within the department, supporting service improvement and innovation. Contribute to recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and development of multidisciplinary staff. Teaching, Training and Education Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision of junior doctors and other staff. Contribute to educational programmes, formal teaching sessions and professional development activities. Clinical Governance, Audit and Research Engage in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and service delivery. Participate in and support research activities and development of specialist interests aligned to service needs. Maintain accurate records and comply with clinical governance and regulatory requirements. Service Development and Management Contribute to the ongoing development of the haematology service, including pathway redesign and innovation. Support efficient use of resources and delivery of performance targets. Participate in departmental and Trust meetings, contributing to strategic and operational planning.
