Summary

Bury Children’s Services is seeking a compassionate and resilient Family Support Worker to join the Kinship Support Team. The position's are fixed term for 12 months working 37 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work, the role will provide practical, emotional and therapeutically informed support to Special Guardians, kinship carers, children and young people, helping to promote placement stability, strengthen family relationships and improve children’s emotional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will work directly with families in homes, schools and community settings, offering one-to-one support, family sessions, creative direct work and advice around trauma-informed and attachment-aware parenting. They will contribute to support plans, promote children’s wishes and feelings, liaise with social workers, schools, health professionals and partner agencies, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.

Applicants should have experience supporting children, young people and families, including those with complex needs, alongside knowledge of safeguarding, trauma, attachment, child development, Special Guardianship and kinship care. Strong communication, relationship-building, organisational, record-keeping and IT skills are essential, as is a flexible, compassionate and strengths-based approach.

Experience of working with kinship carers or Special Guardians, delivering group work or parenting programmes, supporting adolescents with emotional wellbeing needs, or training in trauma-informed, therapeutic parenting, attachment or restorative practice would be advantageous.
