Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) and the At Risk Mental State (ARMS) teams in North East Essex (Colchester and Tendring).

The successful candidate will work in the EIP team, a multi-disciplinary team who work with people experiencing a first episode of psychosis. Under the EIP umbrella sits a smaller ARMS team. This team offers psychological interventions to young people (14-35) with early experiences such as voice-hearing, seeing visions, or paranoia and aims to prevent transition to psychosis.

As an Assistant Psychologist, you would work to support and enhance the clinical and psychological care of clients within the EIP/ARMS service, across all sectors of care. There may be opportunity for assisting in and conducting individual, family and group interventions, consultation, and training for internal and external staff (e.g. education, health and charity organisations). This will be under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

You will play a key role in audits and service evaluations and collection of team outcome measures, along with a range of psychology administration tasks. There is also scope for development of clinical research projects, teaching and project work.

This is a Fixed Term Contract (12 months).

The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to assist with a varied range of tasks.

You will support and enhance the professional psychological care of adults and young people who are experiencing, or at risk of psychosis. This includes supporting psychological assessment and interventions under the supervision of a Clinical psychologist, according to a plan within the framework of the Trust's policies and procedures. This will be through both direct and indirect work.

Depending on experience, the responsibilities of the job may involve assisting in completing complex assessments, (including structured interviews and psychometrics) and communicating the outcome of these to clients, team colleagues and other professionals. It may involve delivering individual or group interventions for clients or their loved ones, and supporting service-user involvement. It will involve supporting a range of wider projects in collaboration with community organisations, education providers and mental health colleagues across a range of services. You will offer support to the wider EIP psychology team in organisational tasks, audits and service evaluation.

There will be opportunities for continuing professional development, including attendance at training events and team case discussions.

RESEARCH/ AUDIT

• Assist in the development and implementation of new clinical initiatives

• Undertake data collection and related analysis of findings

• Use of Excel, SPSS and other IT programmes in the analysis of research data

• Undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research related to the clinical practice of psychologists within the EIP/ARMS team

CLINICAL

• To work jointly with and under the supervision of the team practitioner Psychologist/s in undertaking psychological assessments and interventions.

• To focus on the Recovery Model and service users strengths

• Assist in the formulation of care plans involving the psychological treatment/management of service users, under the supervision of a qualified professional

• Undertake joint work with other clinical staff as required by the care plan

• Attend and contribute to MDT meetings, psychology meetings and care reviews as appropriate.

• To assist in the management of the psychology referrals process within the EIP/ARMS service.

• Support the work of other team members as appropriate

• Ensure the maintenance of accurate and timely documentation/records on all service users in line with professional code and Trust policy

• Other clinical duties will be agreed and decided depending on the post holder’s interests and level of experience
