Summary

Do you have recent experience nursing patients in an acute / community setting as a qualified staff nurse? if so, we would love to hear from you.

We are seeking a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Radiology Department on a full time basis.

You will be responsible for the delivery of high quality care to a defined patient group within the acute hospital setting. You will be responsible for the assessment, development, delivery and evaluation of evidence based individualised patient care within the boundaries of your role. You will contribute to the continuing development of standards of care including developments of nursing standards and monitoring of outcomes. You will be expected to continue with their own professional development.

1. Plan, deliver and evaluate compassionate nursing care to meet the patients individualised needs.

2. Ensure the highest standards of care and safety are maintained.

3. To support the nurse in charge with the day to day planning, the delivery of a high quality nursing service and the continuous improvement of that service.

4. To independently telephone pre assess patients for a variety of interventional procedures. This includes a role in assessing their suitability for the intervention, ordering appropriate tests and giving of appropriate advice.

5. To administer prescribed intravenous drugs to patients before and during an interventional procedure as appropriate. This includes acting as sedation assistant, administering and closely monitoring IV sedation, ensuring comfort and safety.

6. To ensure effective communication is achieved and maintained of sensitive information, with regard to the patient assessments and clinical details.

7. To prepare equipment for the safe care of the patient and assist Radiologist during sterile interventional procedures as scrub nurse.

8. To act as a role model, ensuring high quality, professional standards are maintained and delivered at all times.

9. To document observations, results, decisions and actions etc. effectively in patient’s notes and communicate these effectively to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team and as appropriate, to carers.

10. Provide legible and comprehensive patient records to agreed Trust and NMC standards and guidelines.

11.To care for outpatients in the recovery area following interventional procedures. Assessment of patient needs, planning, implementing and evaluating care on an individual patient basis. This includes monitoring of vital signs, giving of aftercare information and nurse led discharge.

12. To handover care of patients who have undergone major interventional procedures to ward nurses, following department protocols/ care plans, ensuring safe on going care of the patients.

13. To develop and maintain effective communication links with all levels of staff within the Trust and external agencies.

14. To participate in the audit cycle of clinical practices and procedures including infection prevention & control initiatives.

15. Assist in the monitoring and protecting of groups and individuals whose health and well-being may be at risk e.g. vulnerable adults.

16. To participate and contribute appropriately in research, service modernisation, clinical governance and National Service Frameworks.

17. To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with re-evaluation requirements and to maintain a professional portfolio with evidence of reflective practice.

18. Actively encourage service users & carers for feedback and work with the Radiology team to develop action plans to address issues.

19. To promote best practice and monitor support workers practice.

20. To assist in the orientation and support of new staff and students to the unit, working together as a team.

21. To work as a mentor to students and new staff members. To lead a team of junior staff assisting the senior sister with their appraisals.

22. To act as a role model and promote the Trust’s STAR values.
