SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Chesterfield

Pay Rate: £95-£110 per day DOE

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Chesterfield. This rewarding role involves supporting students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support, helping them to re-engage with education and develop the skills needed for future success.

The provision offers a personalised and nurturing approach, with a strong focus on wellbeing, positive relationships and tailored learning pathways. Staff work closely together to ensure every student receives the support they need to make meaningful progress.

- Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and intervention sessions.

- Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and progress.

- Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.

- Assist with behaviour management using restorative and positive behaviour approaches.

- Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience and social skills.

- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student outcomes.

- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.

- A calm, patient and resilient approach.

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

- Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour.

- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
