Summary
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: Carry out clinical checks for patients with long term conditions. These include (but are not limited to): i. Blood tests (venepuncture) ii. BMI iii. Blood pressure and pulse iv. ECG v. Diabetic foot checks vi. Information gathering (e.g. questions about patient understanding of medications) Provide wound care support to the nursing team, including dressings, suture removal, performing dopplers Testing urine samples and other specimens and acting on the results following practice protocol. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Act as a chaperone as required Provide support during minor operations as required Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC Policy Carrying out checks on clinical rooms and equipment to ensure stocks are replenished, in date and any infection control risks are addressed Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children Recognise the boundaries of their practice and know when and to whom patients should be referred Undertake all mandatory training and induction programmes Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times Attend a formal appraisal with their manager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
