Summary

Mental Health Support Worker

Salary: £27,560 – £30,680 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: Full-time, 37-40 hours per week (including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays)

About the Role

A rewarding opportunity to support adults experiencing acute and enduring mental health conditions within a supported living environment. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred care that promotes recovery, independence, wellbeing, and social inclusion through compassionate, trauma-informed practice.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals, you will provide practical, emotional, and recovery-focused support, enabling individuals to achieve their personal goals and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver person-centred support to adults with a range of complex mental health conditions and additional support needs.

Build positive therapeutic relationships that promote recovery, independence, confidence, and wellbeing.

Support individuals with daily living activities, including budgeting, shopping, meal preparation, medication support, maintaining accommodation, and personal wellbeing.

Encourage participation in education, employment, volunteering, and community-based activities.

Assist individuals in developing life skills such as using public transport, managing finances, and maintaining healthy routines.

Monitor wellbeing, identify changes in mental health, and respond appropriately to emerging risks or concerns.

Complete and maintain accurate support records, risk assessments, support plans, and incident reports.

Work in partnership with healthcare professionals and external agencies to ensure coordinated, person-centred care.

Promote safeguarding, confidentiality, dignity, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of practice.

Apply trauma-informed and recovery-focused approaches to empower individuals and encourage positive outcomes.

Contribute to maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful environment.

Participate in regular supervision, mandatory training, and continuous professional development.

Skills and Experience

Experience supporting adults with mental health needs within health or social care settings.

Good understanding of mental health conditions, recovery models, safeguarding, and risk management.

Knowledge of person-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Strong organisational, record-keeping, and time management skills.

Competent in using Microsoft Office and electronic record systems.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are desirable.
