Purpose of the RoleWe are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable Support Worker to provide support for a happy and energetic 7-year-old boy with autism who is non-verbal. This is a rewarding opportunity to help him build confidence, explore the world around him, and enjoy fun activities in a safe and supportive environment.Main DutiesThe role involves supporting a young boy to access age-appropriate leisure activities, both at home and within the local community. As he communicates in ways other than speech, he will need a patient and understanding Support Worker who can help him navigate new experiences, build confidence, and enjoy activities at his own pace.Initially, support will take place at home, allowing the child to develop a trusting and positive relationship with his Support Worker. As this bond grows, the role will gradually involve accompanying him on community outings and introducing him to new places, activities, and experiences.The successful applicant will:
- Engage him in play, sensory activities, and age-appropriate leisure pursuits
- Encourage exploration of new toys, games, and environments
- Provide calm, consistent support when he feels overwhelmed or frustrated
- Ensure his safety through close supervision at all times
- Support him to access and enjoy community activities
- Assist with all aspects of personal care as required
- Build a positive and trusting relationship that helps him feel secure and confident
- 4 hours per week during all school holiday periods
- Additonal 2 hours per week during term time (weekends only in term-time and flexibility in school holidays)
- £14.67 per hour
- Holiday entitlement of 5.6 weeks per year (pro rata)
- Any agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed by the employer
- Have experience working with children with disabilities and a good understanding of their needs
- Have a genuine interest in supporting children with complex needs
- Be patient, caring, and able to remain calm in challenging situations
- Be confident working independently and using their own initiative
- Be reliable, punctual, and committed to providing consistent support
- Have a flexible and positive approach
- Be able to build trusting relationships with children and families
- Respect confidentiality at all times
- Enjoy engaging in play and helping a child have fun while learning and exploring
