We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong commitment to supporting families to join The Meadows Family Hub Team and its linked sites. As a Best Start for Life Family Hub, we are dedicated to providing high-quality support, services, and opportunities for children and families across our communities.
We are seeking to appoint an Early Years Worker to work across our main Family Hub and associated linked sites. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality play and learning opportunities that support and encourage parents/carers to become actively involved in their child’s learning and development.
The ideal candidate will have experience of delivering projects and activities for children, young people, and their parents/carers. You will need to be flexible in your approach and demonstrate excellent communication skills when working with children, families, and partner organisations. A passion for improving outcomes for children and supporting families to access the right help at the right time is essential.
About you:
The successful candidate must have a relevant level 3 qualification and recent experience of working with children and their families, with a willingness to undertake additional training. You will be enthusiastic, motivated and able to work on your own, as well as part of a team. You will have a good understanding of how adverse childhood experiences impact on children’s mental and physical health and development and knowledge of Early Help and other support mechanisms for children and their families. You will be able to work flexibly with families, so they get the right support, in the right place at the right time. Please note this role will involve being able to work flexibly to support the Family Hub when operational which can involve occasional evening and weekends.
A knowledge and understanding of Best Start in Life and Family Hubs would be an advantage but not essential.
About us:
The Family Hubs Team coordinates a network of Family Hubs across the borough, bringing together the support families may need from pregnancy through to young people turning 19 (or 25 for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). Family Hubs operate as a network of accessible and connected services within neighbourhoods, ensuring families receive the right help at the right time.
The Meadows Family Hub is proud to be recognised as a Best Start for Life Family Hub, playing a key role in delivering the Government’s Best Start for Life programme. Through close partnership working with health, education, voluntary and community organisations, we provide high-quality support for babies, young children and their families, helping to give every child the best possible start in life. Our Family Hub and linked sites offer a welcoming environment where families can access integrated services, advice, guidance and opportunities to support their wellbeing, learning and development. www.wigan.gov.uk/familyhubs
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community.
