Summary
As Support Services Manager, you will lead the teams, systems and processes that keep the Economy, Transport and Planning Directorate running efficiently, ensuring high-quality support services for colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
Your new role
You will lead the delivery of vital business support services across Portsmouth City Council's Economy, Transport and Planning Directorate, ensuring teams have the systems, resources and support they need to deliver excellent services. You will support customer-facing operations, business processes and financial administration, helping to keep services efficient, compliant and responsive to service needs.
This is a varied leadership role where you will drive continuous improvement, manage resources effectively and work closely with internal services, external customers, contractors, suppliers and partner organisations to deliver positive outcomes for both customers and the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing support teams delivering a high quality and professional support service across the Directorate.
- Managing operational systems, workflows and financial processes to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Driving service improvements and introducing more efficient ways of working.
- Supporting managers with practical advice on resource planning and operational challenges.
- Contributing to service transformation and the effective use of technology across the Directorate.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
As part of Local Government Reorganisation, current plans will see Portsmouth City Council combine with the district and borough councils of Fareham, Gosport and Havant and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester district councils to form a new, larger unitary authority for south east Hampshire.
We are working towards an implementation date of 1st April 2028, known as vesting day, subject to Parliamentary approval. Until then, we remain focused on maintaining continuity, supporting our workforce, and continuing to deliver excellent services to our residents throughout the transition to the new unitary authority.

Additional Information
This role is based 5 days per week in the Civic Offices in Portsmouth with occasional visits to commercial property sites in the City, please ensure you can fulfil these location attendance requirements prior to submitting your application.
