Summary

Contribute to the day-to-day coordination and delivery of the shockwave lithotripsy and general X-ray services, planning, organising and prioritising clinical activity to provide a safe, effective and patient-centred service. Undertake specialist clinical duties within the shockwave lithotripsy service following completion of the required training and competency assessments. This will include reviewing relevant clinical information and previous imaging, undertaking pre-treatment imaging where appropriate, localising urinary calculi using fluoroscopy and ultrasound, delivering treatment and monitoring the patient and treatment response. Accurately document the treatment undertaken, including treatment parameters, imaging findings and the apparent response of the calculus to treatment. Work closely with lithotripsy nurses, urologists, radiologists and other members of the multidisciplinary stone team to support effective patient pathways, including planned and urgent referrals. Support the Area Lead Radiographer in the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the lithotripsy service. Provide delegated operational leadership and deputise for the Area Lead Radiographer when appropriate. Maintain a high level of clinical competence within general X-ray and undertake duties commensurate with a Band 6 Senior Radiographer. Support the day-to-day operation of the service, including the supervision of junior staff and the prioritisation of planned and emergency workloads. Respond flexibly to changing clinical and operational demands, using professional judgement to identify and resolve problems and escalating concerns appropriately. Work in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, Trust policies, departmental procedures and agreed clinical protocols, including local radiation safety procedures and the requirements of IR(ME)R. Be responsible for the safe use of specialist imaging and lithotripsy equipment. Undertake relevant quality assurance checks and ensure equipment faults are reported, escalated and followed up appropriately. Contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, service evaluation and improvement activity across the lithotripsy and general X-ray services. Support the education and development of radiographers, assistant practitioners, apprentices, students and other learners through clinical supervision, teaching, competency assessment and feedback. Participate in the Agenda for Change-compliant 24-hour, seven-day general X-ray roster, including weekends and bank/public holidays, and rotate to peripheral imaging sites according to service requirements.
