Summary
Diabetes Specialist Healthcare Assistant (17.5 Hours per Week)
As a Maternity Support Worker, you will work with the Diabetes in Pregnancy Team to deliver support to women and birthing people within the Diabetes in Pregnancy Team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Maternity Support Worker to join our diabetes team in a varied and rewarding specialist role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about patient care and keen to develop their skills within a supportive clinical environment.
Interviews will be held in person.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting our diabetes clinics, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations while delivering high-quality patient care. You will be confident, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the delivery and organisation of diabetes clinics
- Assisting with patient flow and clinic processes
- Performing clinical tasks such as blood sampling (phlebotomy)
- Supporting glucometer education
- Supporting insulin education for patients (training will be provided)
- Managing and booking appointments efficiently and accurately
- Providing general support to clinicians and educators
We are looking for someone who:
- Is dynamic, adaptable, and highly organised
- Is confident and capable of working in a self-directed manner
- Has strong administrative skills, particularly in appointment booking (training will be provided)
- Has experience in, or is willing to be trained in, phlebotomy
- Communicates effectively and provides compassionate patient care
- Is enthusiastic about supporting patients in managing their diabetes
This role is offered as a 17.5-hour per week contract, with flexibility in how the hours are worked.

Please note you will be required to undertake a Functional Skills Test as part of your interview assessment. You will need to pass this in order to proceed to a Conditional Offer. This is applicable if you are not currently working as a Support worker at CUH.

in order to start in this role as a Band 3 there is a requirement that the National Care certificate (NCC) has been completed alongside a practical/ in -person competency booklet. Successful candidates that are unable to evidence completion of these requirements will start in the role at a Band 2 and therefore will not be eligible for sponsorship. Successful candidates that are able to provide this evidence may be permitted to commence at a Band 3. Starting salary and eligibility for sponsorship, if requested, will be considered at conditional offer.
