The post holder will work as a member of the Hospital Transfusion Team (HTT) alongside experienced Transfusion Practitioners and the Consultant Haematologist for Transfusion Medicine. You will work closely with the Blood Transfusion Laboratory Manager and Specialist Biomedical Scientists. You will be a registered healthcare professional (NMC or HCPC or other appropriate professional body). As part of the team, you will ensure Trust compliance with Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 SI 2005/50 and will maintain, and where needed, develop the service guided by national guidelines and recommendations from the MHRA and other relevant bodies. The role of the HTT is to promote and support safe and effective working practices to all staff involved in blood transfusion within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and for all patients receiving blood components and blood products. The successful candidate will be well supported by the Hospital Transfusion Team and the wider Blood Transfusion and Pathology Teams What you will bring to the role The role involves working trust-wide with staff from all disciplines, ensuring that patients requiring transfusion of blood components and blood products receive the highest standard of safe and effective care. The successful candidate will be a keen, well organised and motivated individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The role requires a high level of contact with the blood bank team and clinical teams across the Trust and includes the occasional requirement to liaise with patients and relatives. Being able to work both autonomously and as part of a team are also essential skills required for the role. To apply, you must be a state registered healthcare professional (NMC, HCPC), educated to an appropriate level with a minimum of two years post registration experience. Knowledge and experience of the transfusion processes is essential. The post will be based within the Blood Bank departments of both the Leeds General Infirmary and St. James’s University Hospital sites, but there is an expectation to occasionally travel to our other hospital sites when required.
