We are currently recruiting Recycling Officers for our client based in Plymouth.
Responsibilities for the Recycling Officers:
• Act as the lead officer for community engagement initiatives relating to recycling, waste management, and environmental services, promoting sustainable practices and increasing public participation. Serve as the main point of contact for coordinating recycling service requests, actions arising from community meetings, ward walkabouts, and environmental events.
• Plan, organise, and coordinate recycling awareness campaigns, educational events, and community engagement activities, ensuring they are appropriately resourced.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, schools, community groups, local businesses, councillors, and external partners to develop collaborative recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
• Deliver educational programmes and awareness projects to encourage children, young people, and the wider community to recycle responsibly and contribute positively to their local environment.
• Develop innovative projects and campaigns that improve recycling participation, reduce waste, and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor recycling facilities, communal collection points, and public areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with service standards.
• Support operational teams when required, including assisting with the movement and distribution of recycling equipment and promotional materials.
• Maintain accurate computer-based records, inventories, reports, and project documentation, ensuring all information is up to date and contractors are informed of any service changes.
• Supervise volunteers and community groups participating in recycling projects, ensuring all activities comply with health and safety legislation and council policies.
• Assist in preparing, monitoring, and reporting on project budgets and funding applications for environmental and recycling initiatives.
• Investigate and resolve customer enquiries and complaints relating to recycling and waste services in accordance with council procedures, ensuring high standards of customer care are maintained.
• Research best practice within the recycling and environmental sector and recommend service improvements to increase efficiency and customer engagement.
• Ensure excellent customer service standards are maintained at all times while promoting environmental awareness and sustainable waste management.
• Carry out any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post, as directed by management.
