Summary

The responsibilities of this post include: Working across the Acute Medicine service including AAU, EAU, and ACU and supporting the medical take team. Participating in the medicine on-call rota. Undertaking daily reviews of medical inpatients and providing ongoing care i.e., performing relevant investigations, following up results, monitoring of patients, liaising with other specialities, communication with patients and families, completing discharge summaries etc. Undertaking clinical documentation on the electronic records system in accordance with good medical practice. Working closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, and administrative and support staff. Actively participate in weekly AAU teaching and departmental audits. Duties in an Emergency Resident doctors are required to perform duties over and above their contracted hours in occasional emergencies and in unforeseen circumstances, at the request of the Clinical Director of the service. It has been agreed with the profession and the Department of Health and Social Care that these additional commitments are exceptional, and should not be required to undertake work of this kind for a prolonged period or on a regular basis. Clinical Audit and Governance The post holder will need to take an active part in clinical governance and clinical risk management, and in their implementation including audit. Continuing Professional Development The West Herts & Watford PGMC offers an extensive programme of regular weekly postgraduate education. The post holder will be expected to participate in this programme.
