Summary

A well-respected diabetes specialist nurse who sets high standards and leads by example to motivate and empower others. Specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and research.Work as a diabetes specialist nurse within the wider multidisciplinary team. Use clinical history taking, clinical examination and interpretation skills to assess patients needs in terms of diagnosis and treatment plans, under supervision of the MDT. Interpret bloods and reviewmanagement and treatment plans under the supervision of the MDT.Work in the acute hospital setting, outpatient clinics as well as local community settings.Deliver test results and sensitive and confidential information to individuals with compassion and empathy, taking into account distressing and emotional responses. Provide psychologicalsupport where required, especially within the clinical areas of pregnancy, end of life and Intensive Care UnitsInitiate treatments in the management of diabetesProvide specialist advice and ongoing lifestyle recommendations to patients and relativesParticipate in structured educationAct as a resource for patients and staff in the management of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes.
