Summary
Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times. Maintain effective and supportive communications with evidence of well developed communication skills, able to effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policies and care pathways to patients, carers, nursing staff and the multi- professional team. Act as a skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the senior nursing team. Able to coordinate a shift effectively, supporting and acting as a role model to nursing staff to develop management and leadership skills. Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including; complex patient monitoring; equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures. Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need. Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited. This will include participating in the Quality Assurance Reviews to review patient care and act on blood results that are out of an acceptable range. Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g imparting bad news or following an unexpected event. Participate in service /policy development, involving patients and public, for example, clinical guidelines, clinical operative procedures and patient information leaflets. Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate, for example, sickness and absence, skill mix for shift patterns, complaints. A knowledgeable resource for nursing staff, able to give advice on national, local and Trust policy and procedures and guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
