Summary
Ability to work unsupervised using own initiative and acts independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills. Engage in effective communication with patients, relatives and visitors. Maintains confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Policy. Recognises and promote diversity. Gives all personal care as required. Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed adhering to agreed procedures. Prepares the environment and equipment for examinations taking into account Health & Safety issues and Infection Control measures. Assists patients in preparation for examination, mobilisation and positioning and acts as a chaperone. Assists the clinician with examination process and anticipates the needs of the patient and doctor e.g. biopsy and micro-suction. Assesses the needs of individual patients and/or relatives and offers appropriate advice, reassurance, support, and advocacy, reinforcing plan for care. Demonstrates sound judgement in assessing the emotional and physical care of patients in a holistic manner. Plans, instructs and demonstrates procedures to patient and/or relatives. Evaluates treatment plan and takes necessary action to achieve optimal treatment objectives. Offers information (verbal and written) or direct patient for further advice e.g. Specialist Nurse, P.A.L.S. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care. Ensures written documentation is accurate, legible and succinct and forwarded as necessary e.g. Discharge plan, procedures recorded via E-Care, tests requested via E-Care. Keeps patients and visitors up to date regarding clinic running times.
