Summary

This post is for a period of 12 months.

You must be clinically experienced in medical oncology and be competent in the prescribing and monitoring of SACT delivery. An interest in Breast and Thoracic oncology would be particularly helpful. The postholder would be a member of all appropriate multidisciplinary teams and would be expected to contribute to education and training as well as research wherever it is relevant within the subspeciality.

You must be a fully registered medical practitioner with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of application.You will have a minimum offour years’ postgraduate training, at least two years of which is in a relevant specialty.

Clinical:

· Provide Oncology advice to the MDTs appropriate to the tumour subspeciality

· Prescribing of and supervision of prescribing of SACT.

· Out-patient clinic, day unit and ward management.

Administrative:

· Participation in unit and directorate clinical governance processes including reporting into the Trust mortality database

Research:

· There is an active research programme on the unit with links to the Sir Bobby Robson Unit at Freeman Hospital and to Newcastle University. Contribution to the research programme or further developments and collaborations will be actively encouraged.

Teaching:

· There will be opportunity to develop teaching skills within the department

· Bedside and clinical teaching of undergraduate students will form part of the responsibilities of the postholder

· Clinical training and supervision of Trust resident doctors and Deanery trainees will be expected.

Flexibility:

In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
