Summary

The department is seeking to appoint a Clinical Fellow at ST3+ level in Paediatric 

Surgery and Urology for a fixed-term period of one year from 1 September 2026. The 

post will form part of the registrar rota for paediatric surgery and urology. The post is 

currently approved for 0.8 whole-time equivalent. The role is based within the 

regional tertiary referral centre for paediatric surgery in the South West of England 

and also supports non-specialist surgical provision for the Bristol conurbation.

Interviews will be held on the 6th of August.

 

• Support the surgical care of infants undergoing neonatal surgery at St Michael’s Hospital, working in close cooperation with neonatologists who staff the neonatal intensive care unit.

• Work for the paediatric surgical consultants as part of the non-resident standard on call rota alongside other ST3+ trainees.

• Contribute to undergraduate teaching through ward rounds, outpatient clinics and, where required, formal teaching commitments.

•  Support postgraduate teaching of medical staff and provide instruction to junior staff under supervision as part of the normal duties of the post. 

• Provide teaching to nurses and other staff where required, in line with the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff.

•  Undertake clinical duties across the normal working week, with time allocated entirely to clinical activities.

•  Attend relevant junior medical staff and divisional meetings, as appropriate, and engage with departmental administrative arrangements. 

• Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation with colleagues where practicable.

• Arrange annual leave and study leave prospectively with cover provided by other members of the department.
