Summary
Fernlea Residential Home is looking for a compassionate, motivated and experienced Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated care team. Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Care Assistant, you will be responsible for:
• Administering medication safely and in line with policies and procedures.
• Leading and coordinating shifts to ensure the smooth running of the home.
• Liaising professionally with external agencies, healthcare professionals and families.
• Creating, reviewing and updating individual care plans.
• Undertaking care assessments and regular care reviews.
• Delegating tasks effectively to the care team.
• Ensuring all residents receive safe, compassionate and high-quality care.
• Conducting staff supervisions and providing ongoing support and guidance.
• Promoting a positive, supportive and professional working environment.
• Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Care Worker to lead care delivery, supervise care staff and ensure high standards of care, dignity and safeguarding.
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Care Worker is responsible for delivering high-quality care whilst providing day-to-day supervision and leadership to Care Workers. The post holder will monitor care standards, oversee medication administration, mentor junior staff and ensure compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards, safeguarding legislation and company policies.
This is a genuine senior role involving supervisory responsibilities and decision-making beyond those expected of a Care Worker.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
* Lead care staff during allocated shifts.
* Allocate duties and monitor completion of care tasks.
* Supervise and support Care Workers.
* Mentor and induct new employees.
* Monitor staff performance and report concerns to management.
* Ensure care plans are implemented, reviewed and updated.
* Deliver person-centred care in accordance with individual care plans.
* Administer and record medication safely.
* Undertake risk assessments and escalate concerns.
* Maintain accurate electronic and written care records.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
* Liaise with GPs, district nurses, social workers and families.
* Promote independence, dignity and choice.
* Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
* Monitor infection prevention and control procedures.
* Support residents with mobility using appropriate equipment.
* Respond appropriately to emergencies.
* Participate in quality assurance audits.
* Support preparation for CQC inspections.
* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
* Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR.
* Work flexibly across shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have:
* Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care (RQF/NVQ/QCF) or recognised equivalent.
* GCSE (or equivalent) English and Mathematics.
* Medication Administration training.
* Safeguarding Adults training.
* Moving and Handling training.
Essential Experience
Applicants must demonstrate:
* Minimum 2 years' experience working within adult social care.
* Minimum 12 months' experience supervising or leading care staff.
* Experience administering medication.
* Experience completing care documentation.
* Experience supervising staff during shifts.
* Experience communicating with healthcare professionals.
* Experience supporting service users with personal care.
* Experience promoting person-centred care.
* Experience managing challenging situations calmly and professionally.
Essential Knowledge

* Supervising more than 10 care staff.
* Experience with electronic care planning systems.
* Experience participating in CQC inspections.
* Experience conducting care audits.
* Experience mentoring apprentices or overseas recruits.
* Experience within Learning Disabilities, Mental Health and complex care settings.
