- Deliver one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assist students in developing communication, independence and daily living skills.
- Support non-verbal students using alternative communication strategies, including PECS, Makaton, visual supports or AAC where appropriate.
- Encourage positive behaviour using consistent and person-centred approaches.
- Support students during vocational activities, enrichment sessions and community-based learning.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, job coaches and other professionals to deliver individual support programmes.
- Monitor student progress and contribute to reviews and target setting.
- Promote independence, confidence and social interaction both inside and outside the classroom.
- Help maintain a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
- Previous experience as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker or within a similar support role.
- Essential experience supporting young people or adults with Autism.
- A strong understanding of Autism and associated communication and sensory needs.
- Experience supporting non-verbal individuals using alternative communication methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, resilience and a calm, proactive approach.
- The ability to build positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues and families.

This role involves regular, direct and unsupervised contact with young people and vulnerable adults and is classed as regulated activity. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, promote the welfare of all students and follow all safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. Appointment is subject to satisfactory safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check with the relevant barred list checks where applicable, identity verification, qualification checks, employment history checks and suitable references.
