Summary
MET Technician - Locations Southall, Southend Essex, Basildon Essex
Purpose of Role
Deliver high-quality mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) repairs that restore vehicles to manufacturer, industry and Company standards and support customer satisfaction.
· Complete repairs safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, following manufacturer repair methods, BS10125 requirements and Company procedures.
· Use technical knowledge, skills and experience to diagnose, dismantle, repair and reassemble vehicles to the required quality and safety standards.
· Support, mentor and guide colleagues, including assisting with diagnostics and troubleshooting when required.
· Help achieve departmental productivity, quality, safety and customer service objectives.
Main Job Functions
· Safely remove and refit mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components in line with manufacturer repair methods, BS10125 requirements and Company procedures.
· Dismantle and reassemble vehicles to a high standard, ensuring all components are correctly fitted, adjusted and tested before handover.
· Ensure repaired vehicles meet all relevant safety and quality standards before release, escalating any outstanding defects or concerns to the Workshop Manager.
· Apply sound knowledge of modern mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle systems, completing diagnostics and fault-finding where required.
· Provide technical support to colleagues and apprentices, assisting with diagnostics and troubleshooting as appropriate.
· Complete repairs within allocated timescales using job cards, repair specifications and manufacturer repair information.
· Photograph and accurately record repairs in line with Company procedures, identifying any structural, corrosion or repair-related concerns.
· Work with the Parts Department to support timely ordering, return and reconciliation of parts and materials.
· Carry out body alignment, vehicle measuring and four-wheel alignment when trained and authorised.
· Complete road tests when authorised, competent and insured, following Company procedures.
· Conduct final quality checks to confirm repairs meet BS10125 accreditation standards and Company quality requirements.
· Where applicable, ensure repairs by non-ATA accredited technicians are inspected and signed off by an ATA-accredited technician.
· Keep the work area clean, organised and safe, following Company Health & Safety policies, COSHH requirements, environmental procedures and safe systems of work.
· Keep customer vehicles, keys and personal belongings secure while under the Company's control.
· Complete all repair documentation and records accurately in line with Company procedures.
· Work on electric and hybrid vehicles only when appropriately trained, competent and authorised.
· Take part in Company, manufacturer and industry training to maintain technical competence and keep pace with vehicle technology.
· Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
Experience, Qualifications and Training
Essential
· Proven experience in body repair and mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) vehicle repair.
· Good working knowledge of mechanical, suspension, electrical and vehicle systems.
· Experience in auto electrical diagnosis and repair.
· Ability to interpret and work accurately from job cards, repair specifications and manufacturer repair information.
· Experience using computerised wheel alignment and measuring equipment.
· Ability to prioritise effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced accident repair environment.
· Commitment to following manufacturer repair methods, BS10125 requirements and Company procedures.
· Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
· ATA accreditation, or willingness to achieve and maintain it where required by the Company.
· Level 3 NVQ, or equivalent, in Vehicle Body Repair, MET or a related automotive discipline.
· Experience repairing electric and hybrid vehicles.
· Manufacturer-specific training or recognised industry qualifications.
· Diagnostic and fault-finding experience across multiple vehicle manufacturers.
