Lead a vital service. Inspire a high-performing team. Make a difference to your community.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Council Tax professional to join our Revenue and Benefits Service as a Council Tax Team Leader. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated team responsible for delivering an essential front-line service, ensuring residents receive an efficient, accurate and supportive experience while helping the Council maximise income collection and meet its statutory responsibilities.

As a key leader within the service, you will play an important role in driving performance, supporting colleagues and shaping the future delivery of Council Tax operations. If you are passionate about customer service, enjoy developing people and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.

About the role

As Council Tax Team Leader, you will lead and manage the operational delivery of the Council Tax service, ensuring the accurate and timely administration of accounts, billing, discounts, exemptions, reliefs, write-offs and associated processes. You will oversee day-to-day service delivery, ensuring that legislation, policies and performance standards are consistently met while maintaining a strong focus on customer experience.

You will work closely with colleagues across Revenues and Benefits and other Council services to deliver an integrated approach to local taxation. The role involves managing complaints and appeals, producing management information and performance reports, applying delegated powers where appropriate and supporting the implementation of legislative and procedural changes. You will also play a leading role in continuous improvement initiatives, helping to modernise services and ensure the team is well positioned to respond to future challenges and opportunities.

Alongside operational responsibilities, you will provide leadership, coaching and support to your team, creating a positive culture that encourages accountability, wellbeing, development and high performance.
