Job Summary

As a Casual Critical Care Transport Assistant, you'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, doctors and consultants to support the stabilisation and transfer of critically ill patients between hospitals and Critical Care Units.

You'll play a vital role in every transfer— ensuring the safe transport of patients and the clinical team but also providing hands-on patient care within your scope of practice and supporting patients' families throughout what can be an incredibly challenging time.

This casual role is ideal if you are looking for work that fits around your lifestyle, offering flexible shift options with the consistency and support of an established specialist service. You can choose shifts that suit your availability while making a meaningful contribution to critical care transport and the patients and families we support.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Hold a full UK manual driving licence with C1 entitlement, have a minimum of one year's driving experience and no more than three penalty points.

Hold and maintain a recognised clinical qualification that is equivalent to FREC3 SJA Critical Care Transport Assistant qualification, FREC3, FREC4, IREC3, OR IREC4).

Hold and maintain a blue light driving qualification e.g. IHCD D1/D2, BTEC Level 3 or Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD).

Experience of working positively with stakeholders.

Experience of operating in stressful emergency situations.

Be able to work flexibly and respond to shifts as required.

About the Role

As a Casual Critical Care Transport Assistant, you will:

Provide safe and effective transport for the patient, clinical team and relatives for each journey; ensuring the comfort, dignity and wellbeing.

Maintain competence in all required skills through continuing professional development and completion of mandatory learning.

Ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, clean, fit for purpose and that any defects are reported promptly.

Work as an integral member of the Critical Care Transport team, supporting NHS clinical colleagues with tasks and procedures within your level of training and competence.

Provide emergency aid, either independently or as part of the clinical team, where appropriate, including responding to incidents encountered during transit.

Support patients' families by providing reassurance, clear information and compassionate care.

Complete all patient, vehicle and equipment documentation accurately and promptly.
