Summary

This is a Fixed Term Contract until 31st August 2027

Are you someone with good analytical skills, able to review and interrogate data to produce reports that can support the work of our Trading Standards and Housing Standards teams and maximise outcomes for the local community? As an intelligence and data analyst your work would do just that across both teams, with a particular focus on the new Renters' Rights Act.

All about the role

In this role, you will analyse, interpret and present data from a range of sources to help inform the decision-making process that enables resources to be allocated effectively, leading to positive enforcement outcomes.

You will take the lead on identifying pro-active enforcement opportunities and investigating cases with a data-led approach.

You'll also provide information for the preparation of relevant reports and returns, including statutory returns, relating to both the Trading Standards and Housing Standards Teams, as well as leading on the handling, storage and destruction of digital evidence obtained by officers during the course of their enquiries.

All about our Teams

Both Trading Standards and Housing Standards are part of Regulatory Services, protecting local residents and ensuring a level playing field for legitimate businesses. The teams work closely together, and both are intelligence-led, their work focusing on matters that can cause the greatest harms or detriment.

Trading Standards has a very broad public protection remit, including making sure the food we buy is safe and correctly labelled from the farm to the plate at home, in a restaurant or from a takeaway; that consumers aren't misled by inaccurate descriptions or promises, subjected to prohibited trading practices, or harmed by defective products.

Housing Standards has a vital role in protecting residents by ensuring that homes in the private rented sector, houses in multiple occupation, mobile home sites and other types of residential accommodation are safe, healthy, and well managed. The team works to improve housing conditions, enforce housing legislation, and take action against poor property management.

Able to analyse complex data and identify patterns and trends, to develop insights.
